Closed Die Forgings
We manufacture closed-die forgings from a wide range of materials, including Monel K-500, reducing raw material waste and machining costs to deliver lower unit costs and consistent, high-integrity components.
MTS Forge has delivered precision closed-die forging solutions since 1986, serving aerospace, defense, power generation, and industrial sectors across Pennsylvania and beyond. Our closed-die process reduces raw material waste and machining costs, lowering your unit costs without compromising on dimensional accuracy, metallurgical integrity, or the rigorous quality standards your procurement team demands.

From precision closed-die forgings to custom shapes and specialized alloys, we deliver solutions for the most demanding industrial applications.
We manufacture closed-die forgings from a wide range of materials, including Monel K-500, reducing raw material waste and machining costs to deliver lower unit costs and consistent, high-integrity components.
We produce upset forgings, rings, and cylinders in nearly all market grades, with forging diameters up to 26 inches and individual piece weights up to 1,500 pounds for heavy industrial applications.
Our contour forging services handle advanced materials such as Ferralium 255 duplex stainless steel, demonstrating our ability to supply a diverse range of specialty alloys beyond standard offerings.
We manufacture forged flanges up to 14 inches in size, with the majority produced for the commercial nuclear sector under a stringent Quality Assurance Program with complete traceability throughout production.
Tailored to exact specifications for small components or large structures, our custom forgings combine cutting-edge technology with time-honored craftsmanship — proudly made in America to the highest standards of durability.
Our in-house normalizing heat treatment at our Coatesville, PA facility refines grain structure, relieves internal stresses, and improves tensile strength, toughness, and machinability across the full range of forged components.
MTS Forge's closed-die forging process compresses metal within precision tooling to produce near-net-shape components with superior grain structure and mechanical properties. Operating from our Coatesville, PA facility, we serve manufacturers and procurement teams in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kentucky, and Texas who require tight dimensional control, full material traceability, and certified quality assurance. By shaping parts through forging rather than machining from bar stock, we significantly reduce material consumption and downstream machining costs — delivering stronger parts at a lower unit cost for aerospace, defense, power generation, and nuclear applications.

Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. (MTS Forge) in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell, building the company from the ground up on the twin pillars of quality and service. With a deep metallurgical background and extensive hands-on knowledge of forging practices, Stephen has guided MTS Forge's technical direction for nearly four decades. His expertise spans alloy selection, die design, and quality assurance frameworks that meet the stringent requirements of aerospace, defense, and commercial nuclear customers. Under his leadership, MTS Forge has grown into a recognized American forging leader, serving manufacturers and procurement teams across Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kentucky, and Texas with precision components that reduce cost without compromising integrity.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986 with a vision to deliver high-quality forging solutions to America's most demanding industries. Like his business partner Stephen Carr, Edward brings a strong metallurgical background and comprehensive knowledge of forging practices that has defined the company's technical culture since day one. His focus on process discipline, material traceability, and customer satisfaction has shaped MTS Forge's Quality Assurance Programs, including certifications to Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858. Edward's commitment to innovation and investment in state-of-the-art facilities has enabled MTS Forge to continuously expand its capabilities, serving aerospace, defense, power generation, and nuclear sectors from its Coatesville, PA headquarters.
Closed die forging is a metal forming process where heated metal is pressed between two shaped dies that fully enclose the workpiece, forcing the material to conform precisely to the die cavity. This produces components with superior grain flow, tight dimensional tolerances, and excellent mechanical properties — while minimizing material waste compared to machining parts from solid bar stock.
