Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. — operating as MTS Forge — in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell. With a strong metallurgical background, Stephen brought deep scientific understanding of metal behavior, grain structures, and forging thermodynamics to the company from day one. His expertise has been instrumental in building MTS Forge's reputation for producing stainless steel and high-alloy forgings to the most demanding aerospace, defense, and nuclear quality standards. Under his foundational leadership, MTS Forge grew from a quality-and-service-first forge shop in Coatesville, PA into a recognized industry leader, investing continuously in advanced forging technology and the development of a highly skilled team capable of meeting the evolving requirements of critical industries.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986, bringing a metallurgical background and extensive hands-on knowledge of forging practices to the partnership. Together with Stephen Carr, Edward helped establish the company's core principles of quality and service that continue to define MTS Forge today. His technical acumen shaped the company's approach to working with challenging materials — including stainless steels, high-performance alloys, and specialty grades — across applications in aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation. Edward's vision for American-made precision forgings helped build the in-house capabilities and certified quality systems that allow MTS Forge to serve some of the most demanding procurement specifications in the country from its Coatesville, PA facility.
Yes, stainless steel is absolutely forgeable and is widely used in precision forging for demanding industries. Different grades — such as 304, 316-L, and duplex stainless steels — require specific temperature ranges, tooling, and press control to achieve the correct grain refinement and mechanical properties. MTS Forge has extensive experience forging multiple stainless grades for aerospace, nuclear, and chemical processing applications.
