Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell, building MTS Forge from the ground up on twin pillars of quality and service. With a deep metallurgical background and extensive hands-on knowledge of forging practices, Stephen has guided the company's technical direction for nearly four decades. His expertise spans alloy selection, grain structure optimization, and forging process design—knowledge that directly informs the precision and reliability of every stainless steel manway, flange, and custom forging produced at the Coatesville, PA facility. Under his leadership, MTS Forge has grown into a recognized leader serving aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation customers across Pennsylvania and beyond.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986, bringing a robust metallurgical background and a practitioner's mastery of forging processes that has shaped the company's reputation for excellence. Alongside Stephen Carr, Edward helped establish the quality-first culture that defines MTS Forge's approach to every product—from stainless steel tank manways to specialized nuclear-grade forgings. His knowledge of material behavior under forging conditions, combined with a commitment to in-house process control, has been central to the company's ability to serve demanding sectors including aerospace, defense, chemical processing, and commercial nuclear power. Edward's vision continues to drive MTS Forge's investment in advanced tooling and technology at its Coatesville, PA headquarters.
A manway on a tank is a closable opening—typically circular or oval—built into the wall or top of a pressure vessel, storage tank, or industrial vessel. It provides physical access for personnel to enter the tank for inspection, cleaning, maintenance, or repair. Manways are forged or fabricated components designed to withstand the same pressure and temperature conditions as the surrounding vessel structure.
