The metallurgical experts who built MTS Forge from the ground up.
Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc.—known as MTS Forge—in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell. Bringing a strong metallurgical background and extensive knowledge of forging practices, Stephen helped establish MTS Forge on the foundational principles of quality and customer service. Over nearly four decades, his technical expertise has shaped the company's capability to serve some of the most demanding industries in the country, including aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation. Under his leadership, MTS Forge has grown into a recognized leader in the domestic forging industry, investing continuously in cutting-edge technology and a highly skilled team of forging associates to deliver components of the highest caliber from the company's Coatesville, Pennsylvania facility.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986 with a vision of delivering high-quality forging solutions to America's most critical industries. Like his partner Stephen Carr, Edward brings a deep metallurgical background and comprehensive knowledge of forging practices that has been central to the company's technical differentiation. Together, they grew MTS Forge from the ground up in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, building a company recognized for precision, reliability, and innovation in closed die forging, upset forgings, flanges, and specialty components. Edward's commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction continues to guide MTS Forge's mission as it serves aerospace, defense, power generation, and industrial sectors across Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kentucky, Texas, and beyond.
Closed die forged steel is steel that has been shaped by compressing a heated billet between two matched dies that completely enclose the material. This process forces the steel into the precise shape of the die cavity, producing components with superior grain flow, high strength, and dimensional accuracy compared to cast or machined-from-bar alternatives—making it ideal for demanding aerospace, defense, and industrial applications.
