MTS Forge works with a broad range of materials including alloy steels, stainless steels (such as 316-L), high-performance nickel alloys like Monel K-500, and duplex stainless steels like Ferralium 255. We can accommodate nearly all commercially available grades for upset forgings, rings, and cylinders, and our metallurgical expertise ensures proper material handling throughout the forging process.

For upset forgings, rings, and cylinders, MTS Forge can produce components with a maximum forging diameter of 26 inches and a maximum weight of 1,500 pounds per piece. Flanges are manufactured up to 14 inches. For contour and closed die forgings, dimensions depend on the specific geometry — contact us with your part drawing for a detailed assessment.

Yes. MTS Forge performs in-house normalizing heat treatment at its Coatesville, PA facility. Normalizing heats the forged component above its upper critical temperature and allows controlled air cooling to break up irregular grain structures, producing a refined microstructure with uniform mechanical properties — improving tensile strength, toughness, ductility, and machinability for downstream processing or direct application.

Contour forging is a process used to produce components with complex curved or profiled geometries that standard flat or open-die methods cannot efficiently achieve. It is ideal when a part requires a specific cross-sectional shape, minimized machining allowance, or is made from specialty alloys such as duplex stainless steels. MTS Forge uses contour forging for demanding applications where geometry and material performance are both critical.

Yes. MTS Forge provides in-house rough machining services immediately following the forging process. This involves removing forging flash, surface irregularities, and dimensional excess to bring components close to near-net shape. The capability spans closed die, upset, contour, and custom forgings across alloy steels, stainless steels, and high-performance alloys — reducing lead times and eliminating the need for a separate machining vendor.
