High-precision closed die forgings in materials including Monel K-500. Reduces raw material waste and machining costs, delivering consistent near-net-shape components at lower unit costs for demanding industrial applications.
Production of upset forgings, rings, and cylinders in nearly all market-available grades. Supports forging diameters up to 26 inches and individual piece weights up to 1,500 pounds.
Special forgings in 316-L Stainless Steel for Section III applications and contour forgings in specialty alloys like Ferralium 255, crafted to stringent quality standards including Mil I 45208 and NCA 3800.
Flanges manufactured up to 14 inches with full traceability under a rigorous Quality Assurance Program, primarily serving the commercial nuclear sector alongside custom manway forgings for specialized industrial applications.
In-house normalizing heat treatment at the Coatesville, PA facility refines grain structure in forged components, improving tensile strength, toughness, ductility, and machinability for downstream processing in critical environments.
In-house rough machining removes forging flash and excess material, bringing components to near-net shape. Eliminates the need for a separate machining vendor, reducing lead times, handling risk, and overall production cost.
At MTS Forge's Coatesville, PA facility, every custom forged part begins with deep metallurgical expertise and ends with traceable, ready-to-use components. Whether you're sourcing for commercial nuclear, aerospace, or defense programs, our in-house tooling design, shape-making approach, and quality certifications including Mil Q9858 and NCA 3800 mean you receive tighter tolerances, lower unit costs, and full documentation — without juggling multiple vendors.

Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. (MTS Forge) in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell, building the company from the ground up on a foundation of quality, service, and deep metallurgical expertise. With a strong background in materials science and forging practices, Stephen has guided MTS Forge's growth from a regional supplier into a recognized leader serving aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation customers across Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kentucky, and Texas. His hands-on understanding of material behavior under forging conditions has been instrumental in developing MTS Forge's in-house tooling capabilities, heat treatment programs, and multi-certification quality assurance systems that meet military and nuclear procurement standards.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986, bringing a robust metallurgical background and extensive knowledge of forging practices that shaped the company's technical identity. Together with Stephen Carr, Edward established the culture of precision and craftsmanship that still defines every forged component leaving the Coatesville, PA facility today. His expertise has influenced MTS Forge's capabilities in closed die forgings, contour forgings, and specialty alloy processing — including stainless steels and high-performance materials. Edward's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction has helped MTS Forge earn trust with procurement teams in demanding industries including defense, commercial nuclear, and gas and petroleum, serving clients across Pennsylvania and nationally.
Forged steel is generally superior to cast steel in structural applications. The forging process aligns the metal's grain structure directionally, producing higher tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and impact toughness. Cast steel can contain porosity and inconsistent grain structure. For critical applications in aerospace, defense, or power generation — where part failure is not an option — forged steel is the preferred choice.
