Cast steel can contain porosity and inconsistent grain structure. Closed die forging shapes metal within a die cavity, producing near-net-shape parts that require minimal subsequent machining. By reducing the amount of raw material consumed and dramatically cutting machining time, closed die forging lowers overall unit costs — particularly for high-volume or complex geometry components in alloy and stainless steel materials.

Yes. MTS Forge performs normalizing heat treatment in-house at its Coatesville, PA facility. Normalizing heats the forged component above its upper critical temperature and allows it to cool in still air, refining grain structure, relieving internal stresses, and improving tensile strength, toughness, ductility, and machinability for downstream processing or direct application.

MTS Forge's Quality Assurance Program complies with Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858 — covering military and commercial nuclear procurement requirements. Full material traceability is maintained throughout the production process, which is critical for customers in defense, aerospace, and nuclear sectors where documentation and compliance are mandatory procurement requirements.

For upset forgings, rings, and cylinders, MTS Forge supports a maximum forging diameter of 26 inches and a maximum individual piece weight of 1,500 pounds. Flanges are manufactured up to 14 inches in size. Sawing services accommodate materials up to 16 inches OD, and burning services handle materials up to 8 inches thick.
