Comprehensive ring and upset forging capabilities across nearly all material grades, sizes, and industry specifications.
Production of upset forgings, rings, and cylinders in nearly all market grades, with maximum forging diameter of 26 inches and weight capacity up to 1,500 pounds per piece for demanding applications.
Precision closed die forging using high-performance materials including Monel K-500, reducing raw material waste and machining costs to deliver lower unit costs without compromising strength or integrity.
Custom-forged rings and components tailored to exact customer specifications, combining cutting-edge technology with time-honored American craftsmanship for small components and large structural parts alike.
In-house normalizing heat treatment performed at our Coatesville, PA facility, refining grain structure to deliver uniform mechanical properties, improved tensile strength, and enhanced toughness in finished rings.
Post-forging rough machining that brings ring components to near-net shape, removing flash and dimensional excess to reduce customer lead times and eliminate the need for a separate machining vendor.
Specialty ring and contour forgings in materials such as 316-L Stainless Steel and Ferralium 255, produced to stringent quality standards including Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858 for critical applications.

Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. — operating as MTS Forge — in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell. With a strong metallurgical background and extensive hands-on knowledge of forging practices, Stephen helped build MTS Forge from the ground up in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. His deep understanding of material behavior under forging conditions has shaped the company's ability to produce rings, cylinders, and closed die forgings to exacting standards. Over 40 years, his commitment to quality and service has been the cornerstone of MTS Forge's reputation as a trusted supplier to aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation customers across the country.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986 with a vision to deliver high-quality forging solutions to industries that demand metallurgical precision. Edward's background in metallurgy and forging practices provided the technical foundation on which MTS Forge built its growing capabilities, from upset rings and cylinders to specialty forgings for the commercial nuclear sector. Based in Coatesville, PA, Edward helped establish MTS Forge as a leader in the American forging industry — investing in advanced equipment, in-house tooling development, and a rigorous quality assurance program that satisfies the most demanding procurement specifications in aerospace and defense.
A forged ring is a circular metal component produced by compressing and shaping heated metal stock using a forging press or hammer, rather than cutting it from bar stock or casting it. The forging process aligns the grain flow with the ring's geometry, producing a part with superior tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and structural integrity compared to machined or cast alternatives. Forged rings are standard in aerospace, power generation, and pressure vessel applications.
