A forged ring is a circular metal component produced by compressing and shaping heated metal stock using a forging press or hammer, rather than cutting it from bar stock or casting it. The forging process aligns the grain flow with the ring's geometry, producing a part with superior tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and structural integrity compared to machined or cast alternatives. Forged rings are standard in aerospace, power generation, and pressure vessel applications.

MTS Forge produces upset forgings, rings, and cylinders with a maximum forging diameter of 26 inches and a maximum weight of 1,500 pounds per piece. Rings are available in nearly all grades of material currently available in the market, and can be produced to customer-specified dimensions for both standard and custom applications.

MTS Forge works with a broad range of materials including alloy steels, stainless steels such as 316-L, duplex stainless steels like Ferralium 255, and high-performance nickel alloys such as Monel K-500. Yes. MTS Forge performs in-house normalizing heat treatment at its Coatesville, PA facility. Normalizing heats the forged component above its upper critical temperature and cools it in still air, breaking up irregular grain structures from the forging process. The result is a uniform microstructure with consistent mechanical properties, improved tensile strength, enhanced toughness, and better machinability — all completed without requiring a separate vendor.

MTS Forge's Quality Assurance Program meets Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858 standards. These certifications require comprehensive traceability throughout the production process, from raw material heat records through forging, heat treatment, and machining. Yes. MTS Forge specializes in custom forgings tailored to exact customer drawings and dimensional requirements. With a large in-house inventory of tooling and the ability to design and develop new tooling on-site, MTS Forge can produce custom ring geometries cost-effectively without passing expensive tooling development costs directly to the customer.

Yes. MTS Forge provides in-house rough machining immediately following the forging process. This service removes forging flash, surface irregularities, and dimensional excess to bring the ring to near-net shape.
