Precision manufacturing of alloy steel lap joint flanges up to 14 inches in size, produced under a rigorous Quality Assurance Program with complete traceability for nuclear, power generation, and industrial sectors.
In-house normalizing heat treatment applied to forged flanges, refining grain structure for uniform mechanical properties, improved tensile strength, and enhanced toughness required by demanding downstream applications.
Post-forging rough machining services that bring alloy steel lap joint flanges to near-net shape, removing forging flash and dimensional excess to reduce lead times and eliminate the need for secondary vendors.
Custom-forged alloy steel lap joint flanges tailored to exact engineering specifications, combining advanced press technology, a large in-house tooling inventory, and decades of metallurgical expertise to meet unique project requirements.
Closed die forging of alloy steel flange components minimizes material waste and reduces machining costs, delivering consistent geometry and lower unit costs for high-volume or precision-critical procurement programs.
Special alloy steel forgings manufactured to stringent standards including Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858, ensuring full compliance for Section III and other regulated industrial or defense applications.

Our metallurgical team reviews your specifications and selects the appropriate alloy steel grade. For customers in demanding sectors like commercial nuclear or defense, we confirm material compliance with applicable codes before any production begins.

Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986 with Stephen Carr, driven by a shared vision to deliver high-quality forging solutions to America's most demanding industrial sectors. Edward brings a strong metallurgical background and extensive practical knowledge of forging practices to every aspect of the business. His expertise has been central to establishing and maintaining the rigorous Quality Assurance Programs — including Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858 — that set MTS Forge apart in regulated markets such as commercial nuclear and defense. Edward's focus on innovation, process excellence, and technical precision has enabled the company to grow from a regional forging shop into a nationally trusted manufacturer, serving aerospace, power generation, and industrial customers from the company's Coatesville, Pennsylvania facility.
A lap joint flange is a two-piece assembly consisting of a stub end and a loose backing flange that slides freely over the pipe. Unlike weld neck or slip-on flanges, the lap joint design allows the bolt holes to be aligned without rotating the pipe, making it ideal for systems that require frequent disassembly, use of costly alloy materials, or alignment flexibility in tight spaces.
