Metallurgical experts who built a forging leader from the ground up.
Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell, establishing MTS Forge on a foundation of metallurgical excellence and customer-first service. With a deep background in metallurgy and extensive hands-on knowledge of forging practices, Stephen helped shape the company's technical capabilities and quality culture from day one. Under his guidance, MTS Forge invested in advanced forging technology, developed in-house heat treatment and machining capabilities, and built the certified quality systems required to serve aerospace, defense, and commercial nuclear customers. His commitment to producing flight-critical and mission-critical components to the highest standards has been central to MTS Forge's recognition as a trusted leader in precision forging over nearly four decades of operation.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986 alongside Stephen Carr, bringing metallurgical expertise and a thorough understanding of forging processes that laid the technical groundwork for the company's growth. Edward's background ensured that MTS Forge could tackle demanding material specifications—from alloy steels and stainless steels to high-performance alloys like Monel K-500 and Ferralium 255—required by aerospace, defense, and power generation clients. His focus on quality systems, including adherence to Mil I 45208 and Mil Q9858 standards, helped position MTS Forge as a compliant, traceable manufacturing partner for America's most critical industries. Edward's vision of combining cutting-edge technology with time-honored craftsmanship continues to define MTS Forge's approach to every forging project.
Lockheed Martin is primarily a defense prime contractor and systems integrator, not a contract manufacturer in the traditional sense. Contract manufacturers like MTS Forge are independent suppliers that produce precision components—such as aerospace forgings—to exact specifications for OEMs and primes. MTS Forge supplies forged components to aerospace and defense customers that may include major primes and their supply chains.
