Closed Die Forgings
Net-shape and near-net-shape closed die forgings in 2618 aluminum, minimizing raw material consumption and downstream machining costs while achieving tight dimensional tolerances required by aerospace procurement standards.
When aerospace applications demand aluminum that holds its strength under sustained heat and mechanical stress, 2618 is the alloy of choice. MTS Forge produces aerospace-grade 2618 aluminum forgings with precision die processes, in-house heat treatment, and full quality traceability — delivering components engineered to perform where failure is not an option.

From closed die shapes to custom contours, MTS Forge delivers aerospace-grade 2618 aluminum forgings with complete in-house capabilities.

Custom 2618 aluminum forgings engineered to exact customer specifications, from small precision components to larger structural elements, backed by MTS Forge's in-house tooling design and decades of metallurgical expertise.
In-house heat treatment of 2618 aluminum forgings to T61 temper, producing a refined, uniform microstructure with consistent mechanical properties essential for aerospace and defense structural applications.
Contour forging of 2618 aluminum into complex profiles and shapes, leveraging MTS Forge's large tooling inventory to produce near-net geometry cost-effectively without defaulting to expensive bar machining.
In-house rough machining of 2618 aluminum forgings immediately after forming, removing flash and dimensional excess to deliver parts closer to final specification and reduce customer lead times and handling risk.
Upset forgings, rings, and cylinders in 2618 aluminum up to 26 inches in diameter and 1,500 lbs per piece, serving aerospace structural and rotational component requirements with proven process repeatability.
2618 aluminum is a copper-magnesium alloy specifically engineered for elevated-temperature service — the material of choice for aerospace pistons, airframe structures, and rotating components where 2024 falls short. At MTS Forge's Coatesville, PA facility, we produce 2618 forgings using closed die and custom processes backed by full in-house heat treatment to T61 temper, complete quality traceability, and certifications including Mil I 45208 and Mil Q9858. The result is a forged 2618 component with the mechanical integrity and documentation your aerospace or defense program requires.

See how MTS Forge has delivered precision 2618 aluminum forgings to aerospace and defense manufacturers across the country.
For nearly four decades, MTS Forge has supplied precision forgings to aerospace and defense programs that demand more than standard mill-quality material.
Founded by metallurgists, MTS Forge brings deep alloy-level knowledge to every 2618 forging, ensuring correct process parameters for the alloy's narrow forging window.
From forging and heat treatment to rough machining and inspection, all operations are performed at our Coatesville, PA facility, eliminating outside vendor risk and delays.
Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858 certifications back our quality assurance program, satisfying aerospace and defense procurement requirements with complete part traceability.
All 2618 aluminum forgings are produced domestically at our Pennsylvania forge, meeting Buy American and ITAR-sensitive supply chain requirements for defense and aerospace OEMs.

Co-Founder
Stephen Carr co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. in 1986 alongside Edward Waddell, establishing MTS Forge on the dual pillars of quality and service that continue to define the company today. With a formal metallurgical background and decades of hands-on forging experience, Stephen brought deep technical understanding of alloy behavior, die design, and process control to the company's foundation. His expertise has been instrumental in developing MTS Forge's capabilities across difficult materials including high-performance aluminum alloys, stainless steels, and specialty nickel-based alloys. Under his co-leadership, MTS Forge has grown into a recognized leader in precision forging for aerospace, defense, and power generation customers across Pennsylvania and the broader United States.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded MTS Forge in 1986 with Stephen Carr, bringing a strong metallurgical background and extensive practical knowledge of forging practices to the venture. Edward's technical foundation in materials science and his understanding of industrial forging processes shaped the company's early product quality standards and customer service approach. His commitment to innovation and manufacturing excellence helped MTS Forge invest in state-of-the-art forging technology and build a team of highly trained forging associates capable of producing components to the highest caliber. Edward's vision of a domestically rooted, quality-first forge has positioned MTS Forge as a trusted partner for aerospace, defense, and nuclear industry procurement teams for nearly 40 years.
2618-T61 is an aluminum-copper-magnesium alloy in the artificially aged temper condition. The T61 designation means the material has been solution heat treated and then artificially aged to near-peak strength. This temper produces excellent mechanical properties at elevated temperatures — typically up to 300°F (150°C) — making 2618-T61 the standard specification for aerospace pistons, compressor impellers, and structural airframe components in demanding thermal environments.
