With a strong metallurgical background and extensive knowledge of forging practices, Stephen has been instrumental in establishing MTS Forge as a recognized leader in the domestic forging industry. His technical expertise has guided the company's investment in cutting-edge forging technology and the development of a rigorous Quality Assurance Program that satisfies some of the most demanding industry standards, including those required by commercial nuclear, defense, and power generation customers. Under his leadership, MTS Forge has grown its product capabilities to include manways, flanges, closed die forgings, contour forgings, and more—all manufactured at the company's Coatesville, Pennsylvania facility.
Co-Founder
Edward Waddell is a co-founder of MTS Forge, established in 1986 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Bringing a deep metallurgical background and comprehensive knowledge of forging practices, Edward has played a defining role in shaping the company's technical capabilities and commitment to excellence. Together with Stephen Carr, he built MTS Forge into a trusted supplier to some of the most demanding industries in the United States, including aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation. Edward's focus on precision manufacturing and material science has underpinned MTS Forge's ability to produce high-performance forged components—including elliptical manways, flanges, and custom forgings—that consistently meet the exacting requirements of procurement teams and manufacturers across Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kentucky, and Texas.
A manway on a pressure vessel is an access opening—typically oval or elliptical—that allows personnel to enter the vessel for inspection, maintenance, or cleaning. It is sealed with a forged cover plate and gasket assembly designed to withstand the vessel's rated internal pressure. Elliptical manways are common in tanks, reactors, and industrial boilers across power generation, chemical, and nuclear sectors.
