Contour forging services using a diverse range of materials including duplex stainless steels like Ferralium 255, delivering near-net shapes that minimize downstream machining and material waste.
Custom-forged cylinders and blocks tailored to exact customer specifications. Combining advanced technology with time-honored craftsmanship, every component meets the highest standards of durability and performance.
In-house normalizing heat treatment performed at our Coatesville, PA facility, refining grain structure and relieving internal stresses to improve tensile strength, toughness, and machinability of forged cylinders.
In-house rough machining applied immediately after forging to bring cylinders and blocks close to near-net shape, reducing lead times and eliminating the need for customers to source a separate machining vendor.
Special forgings in 316-L Stainless Steel for Section III nuclear applications, manufactured under a comprehensive Quality Assurance Program encompassing Mil I 45208, NCA 3800, and Mil Q9858 standards.
MTS Forge produces forged cylinders and blocks for industries where component failure is not an option. Our upset forging process yields a superior grain structure compared to machined bar stock, delivering stronger, denser parts at lower unit costs. Operating from our Coatesville, PA facility — where mid-Atlantic industrial heritage meets advanced forging technology — we serve aerospace, defense, commercial nuclear, and power generation customers who require complete material traceability and certified quality assurance on every piece.

Open die forging of a cylinder involves shaping heated metal between flat or contoured dies that do not fully enclose the workpiece. The operator progressively works the billet under a press or hammer, elongating and rounding it into a cylindrical form. This process refines the grain structure throughout the material, producing cylinders with improved mechanical properties, greater structural integrity, and enhanced fatigue resistance compared to machined bar stock.
