Co-Founder
Edward Waddell co-founded Manufacturing & Technical Services, Inc. in 1986, partnering with Stephen Carr to establish what would become MTS Forge — a nationally respected forging manufacturer based in Coatesville, PA. Edward brings a strong metallurgical background and comprehensive knowledge of forging practices across a broad spectrum of materials, including alloy steels, stainless steels, and high-performance alloys. His technical leadership has guided the company's expansion into critical sectors such as commercial nuclear power, aerospace, defense, and chemical processing. Edward has championed MTS Forge's investment in state-of-the-art forging technology and its rigorous Quality Assurance Program, ensuring every component — including backup stainless steel pipe flanges — meets the highest standards of dimensional accuracy, mechanical integrity, and regulatory compliance.
A backup flange (also called a backing flange) is a flat ring used in conjunction with a stub end or lap joint flange. It slides over the pipe and sits behind the stub end, providing the bolting surface to connect two pipe sections. This design allows the flange to rotate freely, making bolt-hole alignment easier during installation without requiring the costly flange material to contact the process fluid.
